Pampers Pure Nappies and Wipes – Review

⚠️ Picture heavy review – please consider your connection. Wi-Fi recommended ⚠️

Anyone who finds out they’re pregnant inevitably ends up buying the entire universe and the alternate because you need this, and you need that, oh… you need those too! Then just when you think you have everything – BAM! You forgot you needed another billion things when they baby arrives.

There’s always one thing certain though, you know what brands to buy because you’re accosted with so many adverts across television, social media, billboards, posters, the back of busses, newspapers, it literally never ends but you always know the best brands because of it. When you got to that stage of stocking up for the little one to arrive one of the obvious things you need are nappies and what do you buy? Pampers.

Everyone knows Pampers, they’re the best. Some people only use them for night changes, some (including myself) use them for every change. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like them, they’re cute, soft, reasonably priced and I can count on my one hand how many poo-splosians have escaped in four months!

I signed up to the Pampers Squad to see if I could get in on their next scheme when I heard about their new Pure range, I was ecstatic when I found out I would be a Squaddie.

I waited with baited breath for my parcel to arrive and ripped it open as soon as I got it.

Before we go into the review I’d like to introduce you to my son, Noah. He’s the model in all of this and when I refer to ‘the baby’ this wicked little guy is the star behind the phrase!

So now that you’ve met my little cherub, let me show you what came in the eagerly awaited package. Kindly dropped off by the Hermes lady at 8am with the most gentle door beating I’ve ever heard. So gently that the door knocker practically came off in her hand and woke Noah up who hadn’t had a great night. So thank you kind maiden…

The package contained a full pack of size 3 nappies, a 12 wipe pack of wipes and 5 sample packs to go to friends and family.

So without further ado, let’s review. (Hehehe, I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it!)

Nappies
Let’s start with the nappies because this is the largest section of the review.

Packaging

The packaging is really nice, fresh and looks expensive. It shows all of the nice features like being dermatological tested, the 0% chlorine, dryness for up to 12 hours and the better quality cotton used.

I guess that this is the whole point of the new range. I know a lot of people are moving over to the organic, bio-degradable, dermatologically tested products and nappies are high on the list – this is Pampers attempt at cornering that market and so far it looks good.

The first thing I thought as I opened the packet was how tight the nappies were in the packet. Not very good if you have a baby in one hand and you’re trying to open a pack and get a nappy out with the other.

As you can see I’ve demonstrated this below.

Image here just to show an open pack with tightly packed nappies.

Trying to remove a nappy required two hands and where I wouldn’t say this is a deciding factor on the nappies, but I would definitely say that I would think about opening the pack before you end up in a situation with a screaming baby and having to decide with raised cortisol levels for the baby or raised stress and anxiety levels for you!

Design and Comparison

For this section I used a Pampers Premium Protection nappy in size 3 for comparison as this was the brand I have been using since the baby was born. The nappies are super cute though and this pack had designs of houses and stripes. There’s usually two designs in each packs and they normally feature cute animals like llamas, sloths, otters and the like; I’ll let you guys find out the other designs when you pick up a pack to try for yourself.

One thing I will mention is that the nappy size number which is usually very clear on the Pampers Premium Protection and Baby-Dry isn’t so easy to see on the Pure nappies, there’s also an absence of the usual branding, now with just the Pampers heart.

I have placed each nappy side by side with the Premium Protection on the left.

my initial thoughts are that the inside of the nappies look very similar to the Premium Protection, the fastening tabs are a different colour but overall the size, elastic and shape appears to be the same.

After flipping the nappies over you can see that the yellow wee indicator is still on the new nappy and it’s the same length as the other, it appears as though the padding is further up the back of the new nappy.

The fastening tabs were much easier to find on the Premium Protection with them being yellow, I must admit that I wasn’t sure which way up the nappy should have been without making an effort to look.

Even though the tabs are a different colour they are pretty much the same. The stickiness is the same as the Premium Protection and I think the only reason that they have been changed to white from yellow is for them to aesthetically match the rest of the nappy, or because it’s “Pure” and that means no colour right?

Personally I don’t think it’s needed; I’d rather have tabs I can identify without much effort than have to fumble around with an upside down nappy at 3 in the morning because I can’t see further than my nose at that point.

After a stretch test, a line up of sizes of the tables on both sides and the measuring of the inside pad I have come to the conclusion that from an ‘eyes and hands’ point of view the Pure nappies are far softer and cuter than Premium Protection.

The experiment

I decided to run a little experiment to test them without putting them on the baby.

Don’t worry! It’s not the baby’s wee… it’s mine.

Just kidding! Haha! It’s 50ml of water mixed with a teaspoon of caramel flavouring just for the colour.

I poured each pot onto the nappies and waited for 12 hours to determine the absorption.

Inside after 12 hours
Outside after 12 hours

After 12 hours the nappies are dry as a bone and the liquid has completely been absorbed. The wee indicator has a more solid line on the Pure nappy which is surprising due to the liquid being evenly distributed on both of them.

They are definitely living up to the 12 hour Protection claim at the moment!

So because I’m a big fat nerd I decided I’d weigh the nappies in this state to see what happened to each. I sometimes find that nappies that have been worn for a while are quite heavy and full looking at the front. My husband likes to call them ‘Vaseline nappies’ because it looks like they’ve been soaking in Vaseline all night haha!

The first look at these show that the nappies don’t appear to be heavy looking and I tried this with a nappy without changing for 12 hours overnight on the baby and the ‘look’ was definitely different compared to the usual look of a full Premium Protection nappy.

As you can see from above the both nappies with the exact amount of liquid in them have different weights.

I’m not 100% sure how this could happen, but I did weigh them a few times to make sure. My guess is that the padding inside the Pure nappies is lighter than the Premium Protection nappy and this could be due to the the better quality material being used in them. 2g is absolute nothing in the grand scheme of things though!

Size and fit

So we know now that I use size 3 on Noah and I’ve been seriously considering moving up to a size 4 after I finish the current pack that I’m on, so when I received a pack of size 3 I was a little disappointed thinking they may not fit so well and that I have another few days worth of nappies to get through.

I tried the first new nappy on him after his morning bath.

We’re all about the thunder thighs over here and this is one of the reasons why I wanted to move up to a size 4, but to my genuine surprise they actually got a lot better! I don’t know why this is, but I welcomed that extra bit of room.

Up skirt shot just for giggles! Haha!

I’ll be putting my overall review of the nappies at the bottom in my overview. But now on to the next section, wipes!

Wipes

Not only did we get nappies to review we also had a few wipes, at first I thought we’d be getting a full pack to review since we had a full pack of nappies but this wasn’t the case. We had a pack of 12 wipes which I have been comparing to the wipes I already use Pampers Complete Clean.

Now, Noah has sensitive skin and when we first used wipes on him we used the Johnson’s Extra Sensitive wipes but he had such a bad reaction to them that we immediately switched. I remember in the first week he weed on my face when I was changing him and my husband wiped my face with the Johnson wipe and my face became so red and sore that I knew from then why the baby had a rash. It goes so bad after two days that I had to use really strong nappy cream to clear it up. A week later and we had switched between Aveeno wipes, Water wipes and ended up on the Pampers Complete Clean. These are the nicest ones with a light fragrance we can find and being within budget helps a lot too.

Packaging

The packaging is quite nice, it has a sort of matte finish instead of shiny plastic like the current packs. It shows all of the features similar to the nappies and they’re 99% water.

The pull test was successful where a single wipe came out at a time, this is the opposite of the current wipes and is a bit of a pet hate of mine, these wipes were a breath of fresh air just for that!

Design and Comparison

The Complete Clean wipes have a wave pattern which is very slightly embossed so the wipe feels thick and high quality, the Pure wipes have no pattern but the wipe does feel a lot thicker.

I wish there was some sort of pattern though, but knowing the Pampers marketing team they probably decided that the wave pattern didn’t look “pure enough”, a mistake in my opinion because the wave pattern makes them feel sort of luxurious.

The wipes are the same size even though it doesn’t appear that way, I stick by the Pure wipes being a little thicker than the Complete Clean, but here’s a visual so you can see the difference.

Due to the thickness of the Pure wipes I felt more in control and felt safer when using just one wipe on a soiled nappy, but inevitably ended up using the same amount due to habit.

So far so good! Now we just have to run it through the Think Dirty test!

I was told about Think Dirty a few weeks ago so now I run any product through it to see just how good they are. I’m in no way promoting them but simply showing what I do.

Think Dirty is an app where you can see what’s in the product and they rate them from 1 to 10 with 1 being the best and 10 the worst.

I ran the Pampers Pure wipes through this app and I was surprised at the results!

Now if I’m completely honest I didn’t expect this at all! A 3 is amazing and due to my background of being a Nutraceuticals Buyer I know that these ingredients are very safe.

Just for comparison, Water Wipes have a 4 on this app.

The Pure wipes are quite wet which is nice if you leave one out of the pack a little too long because it doesn’t dry very quickly. A definite thumbs up for me!

I tested this by leaving them out of the pack for an hour and both retained their wetness but the Pure wipe was the best of the two.

Overview

We’ve come to the bit where I summarise my findings and I give you my overall opinion on the new Pampers products.

After using these products for a week I can honestly say that they are good quality, beautifully designed and live up to the 12hr protection claim they make on the pack.

My only criticism is that the tab colour being changed to white does make it difficult to see which way you need to put the nappy on if you’re sleep deprived or it’s a little dark. This could just be because the way I am conditioned and I’m always looking for a yellow tab so read in to this as much as you like, but ultimately if this is not an issue for you then I would definitely recommend these nappies to you.

As for the wipes, they’re okay! They aren’t any great shake but that’s my personal opinion due to the lack of fragrance. I like to think that a little scent usually helps the whole issue if you’re out and there’s a poo volcano, again that’s just me so take from that what you will. This Pure range isn’t cheap, you’re looking at around 20-25p per nappy! I can’t say I’ve found the wipes in store yet but I’m guessing they will be about £2 per pack.

If you’re looking to buy a size 3 pack I think they come in 31 nappies per bag and they’re around £6 to £8 a pack, so not really a good price if you’re budgeting and you’re on maternity leave. Unless your husband is a highflyer who earns over £100,000 year, then yeah, great, buy them.

I will be personally sticking to the Premium Protection or the Baby-Dry nappies in the future. Although I do love the Pure range and I think possibly I may get a bag just for special occasions because they’re so cute and I’m a sucker for these cute nappies! If I ever have to have a babysitter that’s not in the house I may just buy a pack for that, just to put a few nappies in the bag that look like they’re posh but actually I’m not but don’t tell anyone shhh! I’ll also be sticking to my current wipes too purely for the price and that they aren’t too much different for me and have a nice scent.

I also had sample packs to hand out to my friends which had the same size pack of wipes and a two pack of nappies with a coupon.

My friend Claire told me:

They don’t leak, they are soft on babies skin and much more absorbent than any other brand so last longer in between changes, the fit is much better too!

There we have it folks, I hope I helped with your questions but please feel free to ask in the comments section and I’ll be sure to answer you!

Peace and love,

Kelsey

The Journey Begins

Hi! I’m Kelsey and I’m going to be your host for the foreseeable, or at least until you get bored, ha!

I’ve been trying to decide what to do with my free time for so long that I can’t even remember when my struggle began.
Life changes so quickly and before you know it you’re on a different path than you set out on all because you were admiring the trees above your head for too long.

Last year was the busiest of my life, I finally married my soulmate – my one true love. After 12 years of being together he finally asked me to Marry him! Shortly after tying the knot we became pregnant and less than a year after our marriage, we welcomed baby Noah into our arms and into the world.

Some may say that it’s a cruel time to bring up children with that is going on in the world and to an extent I kind of agree. My personal outlook on this is that we live in an age where information is king. It’s so easily accessible and it can be a bad thing, but it’s equally a good thing. I guess it’s all about your outlook right? Glass half full or half empty?

Whether you like it or not it’s difficult to see the wood amongst the trees when it comes to making the best choice with whatever you’re buying. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, they’re all full of ads to sway you to choose their product because ‘it’s the best thing everrrrrrrr!’

I’m going on a crusade to try to give you the most detailed, in-depth, and where possible comparison on baby and kids products.

Momma knows best! 😉
